Fetherstone is a Singer called Briana who is a passionate songwriter and a performer. Briana have traveled the world stopping in countries such as Sydney, New York, South Korea, Singapore, Norway, Canada, Europe and New Zeeland. Currently Briana is London since 2015.

Two Hands On Deck was released on the 7Th July 2017. The song was produced by Harry Tarlton, with music lyrics and vocals by Briana Cowlishaw.

Briana have a passion for telling stories and she links these to her song while she is travelling as they reveal mysteries and secrets of her day to day stories. Briana is inspired by the artistic lineage of her family, the change of scenery of moving to London brought her a new project to light: the electronic indie-pop infused by Fetherstone.

Reason for choosing the song:

We chose the song ‘Two Hands on Deck’ by Fetherstone for our music video production, this is because the indie genre is a style that we, on a whole, are all fond of and believe that we can work with. Indie music videos are not particularly challenging to produce, yet they require a lot of work and commitment, they can be demanding at the same time as being simple. I, personally think that we can all contribute our skill in order to produce this music video.

Also, we have received permission from the artist herself, Brianna, to use the song and she is looking forward to the finishing product. She has permitted our usage of the song as long as we credit her in the description.

Meaning of the song

Analysis of the lyrics

From the lyric ‘change tactics’ I pictured that the girl has had to change many times to fit a certain scenario, this linked with the abusive relationship narrative as it could be that she’s had to change how she is around people so that she seems somewhat ‘normal’.  It also means that she is aware of what’s happening around her, she knows that something isn’t right from the line ‘I’m sinking under soon I’ll have to throw my ore in’, almost as if she is going to give up. However she is prepared for the worst as when she says ‘soon I’ll have to’ this signifies that she knows and is ready for anything to be thrown at her.

The next verse talks about her needing someone with her to help her through it as she cannot do it alone. ‘So take my hand it’s easier to row with two’ connoted to me that she is ready to let go of the old habit of changing how she is around others to please people, she is tired and ready to move on from her past. Yet in order to do this she needs the help of others, she doesn’t want to be scared of letting others in and be free from the cage she’s mentally been locked in.

In the music industry this could suggest that no artist should be afraid to collaborate with others as it could widen their target audience. This song could act as the barrier of artists thinking it's better to go along the road along and tough it out, yet they may struggle to create their own music as there is no help from anyone else.

This song could possibly be about letting go of old habits that artists have and celebrating collaborating with differing genre artists/bands. It is supposed to capture the moment of release and the weight lifting from your shoulders from the excitement of trying and experimenting with something new.

Moodboard

Once hearing the song, I imagined the narrative of an abusive relationship from the lyric “I don’t need another morning crying here alone”. I gathered a few images that I thought related to this line and stuck them on an A3 sheet of paper.

For our song we are inspired about Katy Perry- 'Part of me', this is because this song is based on a break up and how the break up has affected her in to becoming a stronger person.Ideas that rose from the video was usingh the heart locket as an idea as she looks at it with a picture of him and her in before she breaks up with him.

Another song that has inspired  us was Adele- 'Hello' – this song is based in a house in the countryside and how it has been desserted. This is where we got the idea of using an abandoned road from

We have also looked at Taylor Swift- 'We are never getting back together', this song inspired our ideas in to the narrative off our song as, Swift is a young artist and is similar Fetherstone

Martin Shore Theory

Martin shore concludes that music videos are recycled style which contain adolescent male fantasies.

From this theory even though we have gained inspired ideas from similar artists.

However, we aren't using a female artist for the male gaze as we are targeting our song at girls who like indie.

Another Theorit we have learnt is Todrov

1) Equilibrium- this is where erverything is calm, so for our music video this will be when the boy and girl are happy in their relationship

2)Disruption- this isnually the introduction for the problem so in our case this will be the abusive relationship

3) Recognition of the disruption

4) Attempts to repair disruption

5) Return to equilibrium

Have the singer in a field sitting down as well as walking around lip syncing the lyrics

Have flashbacks of happy times in the relationship when the lyrics are upbeat

Have flashbacks of where the relationship starts to get abusive

juxtapose the lyrics and imagery to get the viewers attention

Illustration-

Amplification-love/ romance theme of the song represented through the relationship between the two actors and actress in the performance

Disjuncture- moving on and becoming better self, juxtapose an abusive relationship between the partners

Slide 11- Digipak slide Georgia P

Digipak and magazine designs:

To know as to what exactly appears on a digipak and magazine advert I researched into the topic and wrote a few analyses of similar and differing genres.

I had decided early on to sketch and experiment with different colour schemes of digipaks to see which would be more appealing to us as well the target audience. In total I have come up with 5 different digipak designs, including; black and white, pastel, and nature

I will also be experimenting with a few magazine advert designs
