Genre

Buckingham argues that genre is constant process of negotiation and change" "genre is no longer a fixed set of elements"

Focus group analysis

For our focus group we gathered various different types of people to answer some questions and from this we can analyse we should focus on for our song.  Question 1: What would you rate the song out of 10?/Why? overall from the answers everyone liked the song except for John who was the only boy we interviewed. We felt the song was targeted at girls as both Geri and Katy liked the song. However, all 3 of them felt the song was a bit competitive therefore planning forward we could cut some of the song of the end as the song is nearly 5 minutes long which is quite long for a song therefore we can cut it to about 3.30 minutes which is more realistic. Question 2: What do you think the genre of the music is? In conclusion, all the answers we got were all similar therefore our song is easily fitting in the indie pop genre. Therefore, from this we can easily make conventions between the genre and our song. Question 3: Did you like the song?/ Why? From this questi...

Target audience for our song

Image
Target Audience I can tell from taking a look at Briana’s page on www.musicglue.com / fetherstonemusic/about that she aims her music to a young / young adult target audience, I connote this from the multiple of social links she has in her ‘Contact’ tab, which is referenced by the image below. Her social links include a Facebook page, Instagram, Twitter, SoundCloud, Youtube, Spotify and more. The reason why I have depicted her music aiming toward a young audience is because it is mostly the younger generations who use these sites, which then makes her music easily accessable to them. I also believe that she aims toward this specific audience is because she has a few shows that people can buy tickets to – the image below denotes where and when they can go to the show.

The Indie Genre

Image
The Indie Genre What is indie music? Indie music stands for independent music; this is music that is produced independently from major commercial record labels or their subsidiaries, a process that may include a autonomous, do-it-yourself approach to recording and publishing. The term indie is sometimes used to describe a genre, such as indie rock or indie pop, as a genre term ‘indie’ may include music that is not independently produced and most independent music artists do not fall into a single, defined musical style or genre. This means that they usually create music that can be categorized into other more specific genres. Indie Bands Indie Pop Bands Indie Rock Bands

Artic Monkeys Band Image analysis

Image
Arctic Monkeys Band Image Analysis Album: Suck It and See Colour The Arctic Monkeys appear to be fond of monotone images, as can be seen in many promotional band images, their logo, and on their website. The logo appears on the cover of the album, the cover itself is plain – consisting of the logo, album name in small black text and an off-white background. The colour connotes ideas of an old band aesthetic, a classic band from before the emergence of colour photography. Font The Arctic Monkeys use a plain sans-serif font for the album, which connotes to the rather basic and simplistic design of the album’s image as a whole. This poster demonstrates the style of the band at the time. They block-like text, both on the side and that which reveals the underlying image, is reminiscent of an old newspaper, which reflects the ‘vintage’ feel that the album is aiming for and successfully portraying. lyric analysis

Image
From the lyric ‘change tactics’ I pictured that the girl has had to change many times to fit a certain scenario, this linked with the abusive relationship narrative as it could be that she’s had to change how she is around people so that she seems somewhat ‘normal’.  It also means that she is aware of what’s happening around her, she knows that something isn’t right from the line ‘I’m sinking under soon I’ll have to throw my ore in’, almost as if she is going to give up. However she is prepared for the worst as when she says ‘soon I’ll have to’ this signifies that she knows and is ready for anything to be thrown at her. The next verse talks about her needing someone with her to help her through it as she cannot do it alone. ‘So take my hand it’s easier to row with two’ connoted to me that she is ready to let go of the old habit of changing how she is around others to please people, she is tired and ready to move on from her past. Yet in order to do this she needs the help o...
